MIDSUMMER NIGHT, A BIRTHDAY, AND A MORNING AT A&E!

Hello lovely friends and bloggers - I intended this card to be included with my FYI Design Team post, which was scheduled for 7.00am this morning, (and can be found if you scroll down to the previous post), but last night was a bit of a disaster as Malc (my hubby) had a fall at home, resulting in a rather nasty head injury, so all crafting was out of bounds after 10.pm last night, at which point my card was only partly made.  

We spent this morning at Leeds General Infirmary, whilst Malc had the wound dressed, and various tests carried out.  Fortunately he is OK, thank goodness, though somewhat bloody and bruised.

We are going away tomorrow for a few days, whilst 101 year old FIL is in respite care for a while, and boy do we need it!  It's also a birthday treat as I am 21 (again) on Sunday!!

I particularly wanted to enter this into the challenge at Make My Monday  because I love fairies!, and the theme is "A Midsummer Night's Dream", and that just happens to be my Birthday (24th June)!!

Recipe:-

Fairy - LOTV, stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black. 

The main background created with Distress Inks - Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint, Antique Linen, Weathered Wood and Faded Jeans, and a touch of  SU Night of Navy.

Grasses - Indigo Blu.

Image coloured with Copics.

The Fairy words and the stars, are from Lavinia Stamps.

Backing paper - Prima Madeline.

Machine stitching.

Lace from stash.

Glitter - SU Dazzling Diamonds.

USE YOUR INKS AT LESS IS MORE!

Hi lovely blogging friends. Wow - we have had sunshine here in West Yorkshire today (hope you have too), and my washing dried outside for a change - just have to do the ironing now!

Anyway, enough about the chores - Chrissy and Mandi, the Delightful Divas from LESS IS MORE have set a great challenge this week - to USE INK! (maybe in a way you haven't tried before).  Do pop over for all the details and some fabulous inspiration.

 I decided to do a bit of "splattering" with my inks - it's probably one of the oldest inking techniques in the world, and one I remember doing as a child at school, back in the Dark Ages, with an old toothbrush and some paint.  If you flicked the toothbrush in the wrong direction you came home with a lovely patterned dress.  OK peeps -  who else remembers doing this at school ??!!

Recipe:-

I swirled a SU Brocade Blue ink pad onto an acrylic block, added a drop of water and then used a stiff bristle paintbrush, and a finger, (one of my own fingers of course)  to do the splattering - great fun!

Before starting to splatter (ooh I love that word) , I cut a curved mask from paper, placed it at the bottom of the card and lightly splattered the ink over the top section. To create the darker curve I placed the leftover piece of cut paper at the top of the card, leaving a gap between the two masks, then splattered more ink across the curved gap. (Sounds complicated, but it's not)!!

The fairy stamp and tiny stars are from Lavinia, inked with SU Night of Navy.

Thanks to everyone who joined in the fun last week with the recycling challenge at MAWTT - there were some really amazing projects!
This week at MAWTT the Challenge theme is Pami's choice - "Anything Goes" - Yaayyy I hear you all shout!!  I know I did (thanks Pami)!! because I decided to indulge in a messy inky-fingers kind of day, and get out those Alcohol Inks which I love, but rarely use. So, here is my DT card:-

The Lavinia fairy has been stamped onto acetate with Black Staz-on, and only the image has been inked on the reverse with Alcohol Ink, with a little Glamour Dust here and there. 

The background was created on a second piece of acetate,  with more alcohol inks, then placed behind the main image piece. These were then layered onto white cardstock and secured with inked brads.

The black and green layers are SU card.  

The Toadstools and  branches at the base of the card are also Lavinia stamps.

The cream lace has been lightly coloured with Distress Inks.

BASIC GREY CHALLENGE, AND WOYWW!

Hi lovely Bloggers - came home from holiday yesterday, and couldn't wait to get back to my blogging. I will try and visit everyone ASAP, once the washing and ironing is done (on second thoughts - bubbles to the washing and ironing)!!

I started this card before I went away but didn't have time to finish it, so I am just in the nick of time for the fortnightly Basic Grey Challenge which ends on October 1st. The fabulous sketch we had to work with is by Tara G, and the BG papers I used are from the Granola range and were a RAK from my crafting buddie Nicola - thanks Nicola!! I have also been longing to use these Lavinia stamps which I bought at the Harrogate Extravaganza a couple of weeks ago. Love Tracey's delicate designs - her work can be seen in the November issue of Craft Stamper, and the stamps can be bought at http://laviniastamps.com/ 

The inks used are Weathered Wood DI, and Night of Navy from Stampin UP, with some  Peach Pastel Color Box Chalk Ink around the main image. White glitter has been added, and some machine stitching (please don't look at the wonky bits). The base card is  Blind Date Bazzill Bling, used with the reverse side showing as I wanted a "flat" colour rather than a shiny one. Nestie circles for the image, and cream lace from stash. 

 

And here is my workdesk today (a bit late in posting) for WOYWW - you can just see a sneeky peek of my card for the BG Challenge in the bottom corner, and my li'l old sewing machine on the left. The trimmer is a new X-cut Super Trimmer and I absolutely love it. You can just see my ribbon holder in the background, which was a fab idea from another WOYWW-er, and I am sorry to say I cannot  recall the name of the lovely lady whose idea it was, so if you're out there, please let me know! The holder is actually a kitchen paper towel stand, and I found this one at Boyes - it's chrome and cost 99p - I love a bargain!!!! It holds a dozen or more rolls of ribbon as long as the central holes are large enough to pop onto the stand.
